What is Alar Base Reduction?

In cases with a large laterally widespread alar, the nostril looks big and the nose seems like it is low profile.
This gives one an unsophisticated impression.

In such cases, alar base reduction can reduce the width of the alar, engendering an ideal nose.
It is a relatively simple procedure, leaving an incision line only along the end of the nasal alar and cheek border.
Thus, surgical scars are barely visible and the nasal alar size can be effectively reduced.

Cases requiring Alar Base Reduction

1Cases with a wide flat nasal alar

3Cases with dull impression due to wide nasal
alars

2Cases with large nostrils

4Cases with the nasal alar that is inharmonious
with the face

Surgical Method of Alar Base Reduction

[ Method of reducing the alar base skin ]

STEP 01

STEP 02

Surgery is possible on all cases, and as the most general surgical method,
it resects the skin below the nose in a wedge-shape to gather the alar base together.

[ Method of tying and gathering the inside of the alar base ]

STEP 01

STEP 02

If the alar base is not too spread out and only the bottom of the nostril is wide,
the bottom of the nostril is resected, and both sides are tied with a thread to gather the tip of the nose.
