Canthoplasty Types
Canthoplasty is performed for short width of the eye or inner eyes that are covered with epicanthal folds, looking rather stuffy. It is performed to attain large open eyes. There are various types of canthoplasties, such as medial epicanthoplasty, medial-upper canthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty, and lower canthoplasty. One or more of these operations are concurrently performed, depending on the condition of the eyes and the desired effect.
What is Medial-Upper Canthoplasty?
Upper epicanthoplasty is a surgery that opens the superior aspect of the eyelid, which may or may not be concurrently applied with medial epicanthoplasty. This is a procedure that provides a vertical tension by opening the eyelid superiorly 45° to the horizontal eye line, without the incision of the Mongolian fold.

Cases requiring Medial-Upper Canthoplasty?
Cases with short glabella requiring elongation of the width (vertical line)
Cases requiring correction of starting point of the double eyelid
Cases concerned with the possibility of short glabella after canthoplasty
Cases requiring a modification in the anterior position of the medial canthus
Cases with a large height difference between the medial and lateral canthi
Cases with fierce-looking eyes.
Cases requiring Medial-Upper Canthoplasty?
The eyes look larger without shortening the intercanthal distance (ICD).
Personal image change is possible without crowding effect.
Scar invisibility is possible after surgery.
It results in a larger and amicable look of the pupils and eyes.

Lengthening eyelid

Moving up

Upper canthoplasty is similar in the surgical method to medial epicanthoplasty,
but incision is made 45 degrees upwards for upper canthoplasty, and horizontally for medial epicanthoplasty.
