What is Revision Breast Surgery?

Capsular contracture, breast shape asymmetry, prosthetic rupture or unsatisfactory result of breast size and shape after breast surgery require revision surgery.

Revision surgery should be decided more prudently than the first surgery. Surgical methods may be different depending on the cause. Owing to the fact that the precise cause has to be understood before undertaking any procedure, the selection of a plastic surgeon with much experience and expertise in the area is imperative.

Cases requiring Revision Breast Surgery

01

Cases with a complication of capsular contracture

02

Cases with unsatisfactory breast size and shape

03

Cases with severe breast asymmetry

04

Cases with rupture of a prosthesis

05

Cases that developed inflammation after undergoing breast augmentation

06

Cases with a need for prosthetic replacement

Good Timing of
Revision Breast Surgery

01The most appropriate time for revision breast surgery is about 6 months to 1 year
             after the first surgery.

02The breast tissues and shape will settle down to a certain extent in about 6 months
or more after the initial surgery.

Depending on an individual’s condition, cases with acute symptoms such as prosthetic rupture or changes may have to undergo revision surgery earlier.

Method of Revision Breast Surgery by Cause

CASE 01

Capsular contracture

It is a complication of breasts that become hard and painful. Management of capsule including capsulotomy and capsulectomy and changing of implant is required

CASE 02

Unsatisfactory breast size

proper selection of a implant for revision breast surgery.

CASE 03

Asymmetrical breasts

The size of prosthesis is replaced or the pocket for implant is meticulously dissected for correction.

CASE 04

Implant rupture

In a case of a ruptured silicone gel implant, the area is thoroughly washed to remove silicone prosthetic residue, and a new implant is inserted.

CASE 05

Abnormal positioning of a implant

In cases with an irregular pattern, such as bulging above the breasts or inability of gathering breasts medially, a new pocket should definitely be made for implant insertion
